Launching in Lajitas, this 21-mile section of the Rio Grande is the most popular canyon float in the Big Bend, and for good reason! At their tallest, the lime-stone walls of Santa Elena Canyon tower 1500 feet above the river. As an approachable 2 day trip, Santa Elena Canyon is an excellent introduction to multi-day river tripping. Stretch it out to a 3 or 4 day trip to really settle in to this beautiful place!

The most remote and least paddled canyon in Big Bend National Park, Mariscal Canyon’s unique geology is sure to stun paddlers who choose to float this narrow gap at the southern most tip of the Big Bend. The float begins after a long drive on the scenic "river road" to Talley. The shorter run ends just after the canyon at Solis, covering 11 miles. However, there are options to extend the trip by incorporating other interesting canyons, such as San Vicente or Hot Springs. You can even tie it into a Boquillas Canyon adventure. This makes Talley the perfect launch point for a customized week or more of exploration on the Rio Grande.

This 33-mile stretch of Wild and Scenic River begins in Big Bend National Park at Rio Grande Village. The first few river miles transport paddlers past the small Mexican village of Boquillas and abruptly enters the dramatic canyon that cuts through the Caballo Muerto Mountains. Miles of epic scenery and awesome side canyons make Boquillas Canyon the perfect option that offers the flexibility for people who not only want to paddle, but hike and enjoy a longer trip. Boquillas is a viable option for a low-water canoe trip thanks to naturally occurring springs that help to maintain floatable water levels. The trip ends just outside the National Park at the Heath Canyon Ranch (La Linda).

The Lower Canyons Is the ultimate Big Bend river trip and our absolute favorite. Launching in La Linda, this 83-mile-long expedition on the protected Rio Grande Wild & Scenic River takes paddlers through jaw dropping wilderness. The Lower Canyon’s un-paralleled remoteness lends to its reputation as one of the best canoe trips in North America. There are exciting rapids (some must be lined or portaged), hot springs along the river’s edge, incredible hiking opportunities, outstanding geology, dinosaur tracks, and more opportunities for adventure than one could expect. It is rare on a Lower Canyons trip to encounter any other paddlers and makes this offering a true wilderness experience. Due to some of the more technical sections we recommend guests have some prior paddling experience.

The Rio Conchos is the primary source of water for the Rio Grande, with its reservoir releases controlling the river’s flow throughout the Big Bend region. This life-sustaining river is home to one of the most spectacular canyons to paddle in the area—Cañon del Peguis. We’ll meet at our headquarters in Presidio, TX, then cross into Ojinaga, MX (passports required). After a short drive, we’ll begin paddling into the towering 2,000-foot limestone cliffs of the Sierra Madres. This trip is done as a "boomerang," meaning we paddle upstream into the canyon and then return the same way. Peguis Canyon trips can be done as a long single day or a multi-day adventure.

Temple Canyon refers to the first 11 miles of the lower canyons. Paddled as a two day, one night trip, usually when water levels are too low to run the stretches on the other side of the bend, is a spectacular and often over looked river trip. Towering limestone canyon walls and spacious sandy beaches make this trip a great option if your group is looking to do a single night canoe-camping trip.
This trip is a great option for families with small kids who are looking to introduce them to the joys of river paddling while having opportunities to explore without the pressure of high mileage days.
